The first three photos are of some of the most successful female rappers in the game today (Except for Iggy, she’s mildly successful but honestly just works for this example). The next three photos are of the most successful male rappers in the game today. Theres a big difference. I got these photos just from searching the artist names followed by “Photoshoot”.  The problem I have with this is the pressures society puts on female artists today. These woman have the same lyrical talent that these men do (arguably better than Migos, they sound like auto-tuned dumpster babies). However their success is achieved differently than the males of their genre. Sex sells is the infamous motto of the entertainment business. The thing about it that makes me bummed out is the fact the sex sells is an option for male artist and is more of a standard for females. Many women like the ones in the photos get implants and change their body to become more appealing to their audience, and with hope, to sell more records/merchandise. This is similar to the models in magazines we had discussed earlier this semester. They are successful women who set the impossible standard for woman. I think it’s great that woman express themselves and not be ashamed of their bodies. But its not much of a statement if you have killer bodies like these ladies. That brings me to me final photo which a photo of the artist the the billboards top hip-hop track out right now, Lizzo. This photo is still selling sex, yes, but it is doing something different than the other girls. Its not setting that standard of perfection. Its not saying “Hey if you go to the doctors you could look like this too” it’s saying “This is body. This is who I am” Thats courage and thats breaking the norm of media and entertainment.
