I chose the principle use edges and value the marginal. I chose this principle because I think it could apply to designing humane tech in several ways. In nature, a lot of growth happens along edges and margins. Plants grow and spread to open areas or into areas where other plants grow, creating more diverse ecosystems. This also applies to ideas. An idea can spread from one person to the next and grow as each person incorporates their ideas into the original idea. Ideas can come together to create even better ideas that encompass multiple viewpoints. When designing humane tech, you look to fulfill the needs of the user. The more people that contribute to a design, the more likely you are to come up with a design that encompasses all the needs of the user and represents a more diverse background. In my logo, I used arrows to represent growth from the edges and also to show the two sides growing together. Through collaboration, we can create better tech. Whether you take someone else’s idea and build on it or combine your ideas with the ideas of others, having multiple people with different backgrounds work on a design will result in tech that encompasses the needs of more users.
