NMD 200 Task 1 Final

“Re-share, re-use, re-imagine, this is the beauty of accessible and sustainable art and design.”

Explanation:

It’s an upsetting notion that many of life’s passions are likely eco-harmful. I ask you to picture a state where we can delve into our interests while being sustainable; that’s what SunMade is all about. The idea of ‘Produce No Waste’ is essential for a better tomorrow. In reality, although we are always looking for something new, there is an abundance of materials all around us. Nature at its core was designed to grow and grow upon itself. The uses of these materials that go to waste are endless: a water bottle could become a purse; that old pair of jeans that you never wear? I’ll bet someone will be fawning over them somewhere in the world. Fashion and design, specifically their production, are part of one of the most damaging industries in our current society. Think of all of the people in need of clothes, homes, food, and many other of life’s not only essentials, but joys. Now, think of all of the clothes and old accessories in landfills, sitting in closets/basements/storage unworn, as well as all the donated clothes that don’t even make it out of the store, ending up as more trash polluting our earth. SunMade focuses on the redistribution, revamping, and sharing of old and used clothes. The beauty of fashion and design is that it is ever-evolving, and can be made and re-made into a million different things. Technology is a blooming field that has plenty of drawbacks. However, for this idea specifically, the access that technology provides is essential to the success of a project like this one. With a sharing of materials and ‘waste’ website, you can access people from all over the world who may be interested in your old belongings, while you might be interested in theirs. The beauty of sharing is that you can also re-use packaging, and change up your style endlessly without spending excessively, nor contributing to fast-fashion companies and clothing/material waste.
