Task 1- David Jakacky

Within my logo, I tried to mimic the idea of designs from patterns to details in permaculture. The concept really resonated with me as I found it intriguing to take designs and shapes from nature and implement them into my logo. Similar to how engineering borrows design from nature, I can take the same style, shapes and patterns from nature to create an appealing logo or piece of art that feels familiar and natural to the viewer.

My logo can be interpreted in many ways. It can represent the care, love and thought that is put into nature. It could also represent the idea of creating tech with nature in mind; i.e. through the concepts of zero emissions, sustainability and low energy. Although it may seem so obvious, I think as we walk through endless miles of forests and nature, we truly take for granted that nature is also living and that is the main idea I want to convey to my viewer with my logo no matter how it is interpreted.

My logo shows that although we are engulfed in a world full of artificial technology, that we as people and life as a whole will always be connected to and embody nature.

  • The links to nature are clear–I’m also looking for how we can apply this to tech design or tech process? How can this help tech be more sustainable?
Explains principle & why used: √- “using nature” may not be the same as mimicking nature. How can we act more like nature in our tech fields to design smarter & more sustainably?
Gives example: Can you give tech examples? eg a self-charging solar laptop–uses sun energy and can only “grow” (ie be used) as much as the sun shines–so limits to use/growth, just like plants
Links use in nature and digital tech: √-
    Relevant logo: √
Great design: √ try to link nature & tech in design idea–I’m not reading tech as well in this, though logo is visually appealing
