I chose the principle Use & Value Renewable Resources and Services. My logo features the sun, water droplets, and the dollar sign with arrows revolving around it, with the symbols in the center representing energy, water, and money respectively. These are just a few resources where reusing and reducing are important. Renewable energy sources like solar power and wind turbines have grown in significance because they are environmentally friendly. It saves on time, money, and pollution. In nature, this could be seen as the cycling of seasons and the life it brings. Plants consume energy from the sun to grow and live, and they die when it gets cold and their matter decomposes back into the earth. Additionally, some clothing companies have started initiatives pledging to use less water in the production of their clothing, specifically denim. Cutting back on water consumption and using only the amount necessary for production is a great example of valuing resources. Evaporation and precipitation in nature reflect the renewability of water. It falls to the earth when it rains and evaporates and rains again. Lastly, money cycles between individuals and companies on a regular basis. Our money is always moving and transferring to others and back to us through the daily exchanges made in our lives. It is important to treat our money well and cautiously, setting aside savings while still budgeting in the costs of daily needs.
As far as tech goes, this is a principle that could easily be applied. Finding ways to produce tech so that there is less tech waste, or finding ways to reuse the parts of tech items that no longer work as a whole, would be a vital way to valuing resources and reusing them. Another possibility could be producing tech with the goal of making them more energy efficient and consuming less electricity. Maybe there could be a way to improve the battery life of products or even alternative means of recharging them. A memorable phrase for this concept could be one that already exists – reduce, reuse, recycle.
A description of this principle in the context of my logo could be, “minimize unnecessary consumption and treat your resources with great care. Use only what you need.”
