I chose to create a logo for the permaculture principle Apply Self-Regulation & Accept Feedback. We often put our own biased needs first, making us slow to accept constructive criticism. Especially on the internet, feedback is easy to dismiss as you do not have to see the faces that you are harming. Feedback is a way to check our actions, and make the internet a safer place. The unanimous unrest surrounding our phones ‘listening’ to us, the anger of humans who feel their privacy is being invaded is a great example of feedback showing that technology needs to implement a change.
Self-regulation and feedback are everywhere in nature. Echolocation is a prime example of that. If whales are about to bump into something, sound waves will let them know there is a problem. Whales use echolocation to know and maintain limits and relationships with their surroundings. We use feedback to do the same.
“Echo to Know”
Feedback: Listen to the information given from everything around you to make adjustments towards the greater good.
Hana! I really liked this concept. I certainly wouldn’t have thought of echolocation as a form of applying self-regulation and accepting feedback. This is super creative and I think the phrase “echo to know” is very interesting mnemonic.
