I selected Principal #4 of Permaculture, “Apply self-regulation and accept feedback.” This one stood out to me as self-growth and improvement have been important parts of my life. It is impossible to improve if you do not take the effort to start, nothing happens without action. It is equally important to accept feedback, and hear people out as they often have suggestions or information you otherwise wouldn’t get. Both of these statements are true for many applications, from improving skills to improving personal health. This can also be applied to technology and design, as a first draft or version of a product can become much better after thorough review from self and peers. I identified the primary themes of Principal #4 to be growth and evolution, which I based my logo design on.
At first appearing to simply be a side profile of a tiger, with the smaller parts building it’s neck, realize that the three pieces of the portrait grow in size and complexity from left to right. This is meant to represent the themes of growth and evolution, as the shape begins as a simple, insignificant triangle and grows into a fierce beast. I chose to color it a dark gray and applied a slight texture to make it feel elegant and strong, which are two characteristics of a tiger. It is set in a cream-colored background, which nicely contrasts and frames the logo.
My one-sentence description of my logo in reference to Principal #4 is, “Action and feedback are vital for growth.”
