Task 10 – ColeJ

I think it’s a bit obvious why this meme is problematic. It shows a stock image of a pregnant woman holding a gun to her abdomen. It’s labeled “WHEN ABORTION IS ILLEGAL BUT GUNS AREN’T”

The problem here is, guns seem to have more rights than women and their own autonomy do. Over-turning Roe v Wade, only banned safe abortions. Women, and trans men & nonbinary people, will still find a way to get an abortion and that will be far more deadly than “killing babies.” I cannot stress enough how a deadly weapon and dependent fetuses should not have more rights than a living breathing person who can advocate for themselves. Women, and other people able to get pregnant, should have a say in their own bodies and what to do with them. The same way someone has the right to choose to keep their pregnancy, someone should have the same right to choose to not go through with their pregnancy.

I think my message here is pretty clear. The first meme I made was Robin saying things like a Pro-Lifer would and Batman slaps him arguing back that fetuses aren’t even aware of their own existence. Babies right after birth don’t know they exist and what is going on around them.

My second meme is depicting Pro-Lifers killing Roe V Wade then turning around accusing Pro-Choice people killing babies. It’s a double standard, killing something protecting people who are already functioning humans that choose to not go through with a pregnancy for reasons that are no one’s business but their own, then turning around and accusing those people of killing something that is highly dependent on the person carrying it.

Abortions are there to save lives as well. If the person carrying the pregnancy is suddenly at risk of dying because of it should have the right to terminate it. That person may have been looking forward to being a parent. Abortions are also offered for those victimized by rape or incest. No one should have to carry the child of their abuser.
