I would create a new social media app where mindfulness and connecting with others come together. This app will be created to connect with experts that can help with depression, anxiety, loneliness or social media addiction.. Also users will be able to connect/meet with other individuals that are facing the same issues not only to get connected but to not feel like they are alone and they can share their stories.Users can also share posts however there is no access to things such as likes, views or seeing your follower count, this allows users to post without having to worry about who saw it or liked it.In today’s world a lot of us tend to worry more about the numbers and this is how I believe getting addicted to social media starts. This app will also provide you with motivational quotes or reminders to go and do something besides being on your phone. On the app itself there will be an allocated section where users can find activities that they can do on the outside world, and by doing so users can receive badges from the app when signing up for one of these activities and sharing their experience. Screen time is mandatory on the app every 10-20 minutes. The app itself will kick you out as a reminder to get off your phone and go find something else to do.
Upgraded Criteria-The main design criteria would be social reasoning since this app will help people connect safely and authentically, because on social media nowadays a lot of our talks are about what celebrities are doing, or how many likes we got today. This is important to me because these days our talks include celebrity drama or go like my post.Well does that even matter ? Are we really connecting with one another if we are talking about likes and celebrities? Sure some of us would say this is how I connect with my friends/family, but do you ask yourself how is that more important than connecting with someone emotionally and mentally. Social media is allowing us to obsess over things that are not important and we forget about the things that are happening around us in the real world rather than a digital one.How will this app encourage people to connect safely and authentically? Since this app will not show any likes or followers or posts about recent drama celebrity, users can find many resources such as experts, real people who are facing the same issues (depression, anxiety, loneliness or social media addiction) this encourages individuals to talk about things that are realistic and to be able to connect authentically. It’s like the healthier version of twitter but with no likes, retweets and unnecessary posts which helps promote a healthier community.
Supportive context-A community that would support this context is obviously the people who are trying to provide a healthier environment on social media or people who are seeking to find apps that are a healthier alternative than things such as: instagram, tiktok or twitter. There is a large number of people that are looking for alternative applications that will not drain you or make you feel like you need to change to be like everyone else on a specific platform. The social media community does not seem to be very realistic about some things. There is a certain standard set that us people are required to follow and once people in this community have a chance to connect do you think their conversations include how are you? I mean they might but the conversation that will follow after is going to be “OMG i love your account” or “How did you gain so many followers?” As someone who comes from this community, yes these conversations DO HAPPEN. This is something that the app will try to change is to try to promote healthier and realistic conversations.
Weigh Costs-The expected costs would be needing a team of developers that can create this app which will be easy to use and manage.
