#1 Innovative Design:
Our new media is an app that provides an online alternative to couples therapy. There are a lot of therapy apps in general but not too many focus on relationships. All people in the relationship would download the app and they could connect their apps to each other. The app could provide a series of services such as writing affirmations for each other, keeping a personal diary for each person, provide relationship advice and tips, and calming techniques. This app would be a way for couples to learn more about each other and trust each other in a way that takes away the stigma of couples therapy. As well, people who aren’t in relationships can use this app to gain good relationship skills for when they do.
#2 Upgraded Criteria:
The criteria we chose was social reasoning. We picked this because we know there are a lot of available general therapy apps that tend to self care and personal issues (such as the app Finch) but there are not too many available therapy apps specifically made for couples. Sometimes, people can not afford couples therapy or they avoid it because of the stigma surrounding it. This app will give alternatives that are more affordable and takes away the fear surrounding couples therapy. Seeing any therapist in person could cause a lot of anxiety specifically with choosing a therapist and having a schedule to meet with them. This app will be available 24/7 whenever the couples need it and it can be accessible to anyone who needs to use it.
#3 Supportive context:
Couples counseling is something that has been around since the 1920’s, but we have seen very little change for something that has been around for almost 100 years. Some people thrive on the in person contact with a therapist, and these people probably won’t benefit from an online version of counseling. But on the other side, other couples would see a cheaper alternative to counseling that is more accessible because they wouldn’t have to leave the comfort of their own home.
#4 Weigh Costs:
We want this app to be a good alternative to in person counseling, and it should be as accessible to people as it possibly could be. Cost for our app should be relatively low for both the users and the creative team on board. We would like to hire professional relationship counselors and therapists to help give accurate advice for the app like couples would get in person, and they would also help us keep it relevant to current issues. Our staff would also consist of app designers to keep the app itself running smoothly to give the best user experience we can to our customers.
