For the record, I despise Kyle Rittenhouse and think he is a murderer. The harm caused by this meme extends far beyond just this situation. Kyle killed two unarmed protestors that were asserting their fundamental rights. Not only were they killed while under protection from the first amendment, but Kyle also killed them while he was a minor, which means he is not legally allowed to own the firearms he possessed. This meme glorifies murder and then boasts about his recent acquittal. I can not begin to express how terrifying this is that someone can blatantly murder someone else (in front of several police as this occurred during a police violence protest), and then get away with it. This meme is fake news because it creates the perception that this murderer is somehow in the right and he acted righteously. The people that love him revere him as a hero and that led to the development of a fan base. That fan base raised over 2 million dollars for his bail and legal fees, he literally became rich for murdering people. I keep saying this, but it is truly unbelievable that he is getting away with this AND has amassed minor fame and fortune.
This meme would not nearly have the same viral quality as the other because people simply don’t care. Those who support Rittenhouse will never have their opinions swayed, and the same goes for those who hate him. A key distinction, though, is that those that support him support him a lot more than those that hate him hate him. I mean, people raised 2 million dollars for him. He is some kind of cause to his supporters. Those that are okay with murder really can’t have their opinions swayed. So, unfortunately, this meme has nowhere near the impact of the previous meme.
