Arend Thibodeau- My muses

I appreciate and admire the work of other photographers and I always have. That said, I do not generally get inspiration from other photographers, or more explicitly, I find that my inspiration comes from sources in addition to photography, and these sources all contribute to my own unique expression. To me, all forms of art inspire me to create; whether it is writing by Edgar Allen Poe (whose unique imagery often sparks my own image concepts), or perhaps other historic works of art, more especially the Avant-Garde, expressionism and surrealism movements. This is not to say that I enjoy and appreciate the works of other photographers, I truly do. It is just that my muses come to me at odd times from odd places. Sometimes, I will be inspired by the majesty of nature as I behold the vast landscapes of our countryside. Other times I am content photographing an abandoned, run down building in near total darkness. In short, I get my inspiration from many sources, and each of these sources teach me how to see the world; I merely use a camera to try and express my interpretation of what my muses teach me.
