For Assignment “Elements Visible and Invisible”, I went to the parking lot next to Lambda. Not really sure why I wen’t here, but I’m glad I did. When I first got there, I felt like I was really limited in my options to capture interesting content for these different elements. However, the longer I spent there, the more my eyes opened up to all of the subtleties I could capture. I ended up on the ground an various different positions to try and get different perspective on subject matter. I included my 11 favorite photos. They are below:
Color
Shape – This was actually a reflection off of a car window in the parking lot. I loved it because it really emphasized the shape of the trees instead of the form. You can see a slight bend in the entire image because of the shape of the window it’s reflected off of. It was sort of hyperreal and makes you double take. It also really emphasizes the color in a way that’s two dimensional that I thought was really cool.
Texture – This was the front Windshield of my car actually. There was still some condensation on the window because it was cold and I had my defrost on prior. The coloration of the photo is a result of the sun being close to down (the blue) and the street lamp directly above the car just turning on (The orange). It’s the streetlamp in the next photo. The marks and imperfections on the windshield itself along with these other factors made for a really cool texture.
Light – Originally, I took this photo in proper exposure, but it wasn’t doing it for me. I wanted to emphasize the way it looked to me as I looked up at the light, which was blinding. I ended up overexposing the photo to get the look I wanted.
Shadow – This was a rusted tire that really emphasized a shadow as the sun was going down.

Quality of light – Absolutely no post processing was done with this photo (Only subtle adjustments were done to the other photos, but still). I loved the light quality in this, and wanted to present it in it’s originality .
After completing this assignment, I feel like I gained great insight on seeing a space through creative eyes. Even a space that might seem ordinary can have some beautiful and intricate details in it. Walking around with my camera in this small parking lot, the more time I spend there, the more my eyes opened up and saw potential shots. I also got different vantage points to get different perspective, thinking about seeing through the camera and how that would translate to a final product. I was pretty happy and intrigued with the way this assignment worked out. I think moving forward, I will definitely be more optimistic about shooting various locations. It’s almost a challenge in a way. Because, there is almost certainly something beautiful to be captured. It’s just a matter of finding it, and capturing it in a way that suits the subject matter.
