PART 1
- This early analogue photographer stands out because Paul Strand uses such simplicity and symbolism in his work. In all his images you can get a sense for the mood of the image. In the photograph oh the boy in black and white, you can see that between the facial expression and the use of black and white gives a feeling of seriousness, but also sadness.
- Paul was inspired by modern photographs, more specifically Alfred Stieglitz. Alfred was considered a modern art photographer. Paul was intrigued by his use of realism.
- From his work I can really find myself trying to find a mood within the photos themself, especially in portraits. Paul did such an excellent job expressing emotion through his work as well as realism and I hope that I as well can start to bring that into my own work. Another thing I like is how he takes photo’s of shadows of something too simple but yet it comes off as so powerful.
- Ansel Adams is my favorite photographer yet. He does an incredible job capturing the mood in a landscape image. All his images are super clear and sharp.
- Ansel Adams biggest influencer is Paul Strand. He loved shooting with large cameras and small apertures. Paul Strands love for modern art was clearly shared with Ansel Adams.
- From his work, I can see myself using more clarity but also depth of field when it comes to landscape images. Adams does an incredible Jon capturing such a lively image, even when it’s at a stand still. I’m inspired to bring more life into my images, especially landscapes.
PART 2: Early Modern Influences
- Diane Arbus stands out so much because she shows the true definition of being human in public. Taking such real, everyday life photographs while using such clarity and contrast. Her images really depict a story.
- She was inspired by a similar photographer names Lisette Model. She was known for her frank humanism of her street photography. Her images were seen as fun, but again Human.
- Diane’s photography is arguably one of the best styles of art. She shows people for who they are and in the moment. Nothing is really prepared or staged. She takes photos of people being real, crying, naked, laughing, living.
- Dorothea Lange was most popularly recognized for her images depicting the Depression era of America. All her photographs carried originality as well as authenticity. These qualities that she captures really help to depict the era.
- Her influencers were the Great Depression. She wanted to capture the struggle, but also the love.
- From her work, I can take away the way she uses originality the most. I feel like nowadays it’s hard to find something original. Most ideas come from others work. I think that it’s super powerful when some photos that are taken, wouldn’t be the same if redone.
