Story Proposal – Evan G

Parallel Moods Project:

The overall theme of this project is two general ideas: Capturing happy and vibrant photos in a somber location, which wound up being in a cemetery, and to contrast those photos with the opposite narrative, capturing bland, somber moments in an environment that would normally be considered to be vibrant and playful, which I wound up going with a playground. The cemetery pictures were deliberately taken during the day to make the colors appear stronger, allowing increased saturation to be more effective, as well as dark photos directly working against the theme we were working with. A lot of those same reasons were why I chose to take the playground photos at night, but, I did have a lot issues with this shoot, as there were a lot of lighting issues with a bunch of different street lights casting a bunch of different shadows, and it was incredibly cold so some photos were taken more hastily than I would have liked.

Ten Feet in Nature:

While I’m making this after I had completed, I do think that this project has a lot of potential. Our forests have a lot of natural moments that are worth capturing. Frequently I found myself trying the strategy you talked about in class where you’d place yourself in a 10 foot radius and explore every camera angle you could find in that 10 foot area. While I didn’t apply that strategy to the pictures above, getting a collection of a variety of different photos using that strategy, especially if I took photos at different times of day, different types of weather, or different types of lighting, whether that be artificial or natural. The whole idea of the project would be to capture at least 20 or so different photos all within the 10 foot radius, all appearing to be different shots, unrecognizable from the rest.
