Groupwork Story Symbols – Nausicaa
Story Symbol – Nausicaa embodies the theme of anti-war (for the most part) and environmental protection throughout the whole story and is just about the only one who constantly provides peace in both aspects.
Symbolic Character – The main characters we defined within Nauiscaa include the large bugs that live in the evil forest, Nausicaa who wants to protect the environment and assemble peace when she can, villagers, and those trying to attack the village. The characters trying to attack the village are almost always found with a gun. Guns become a prominent symbol within this story because one of the main concepts of the theme is anti-war.
Symbolic Theme – The theme of Nausicaa is focused on the protection of the environment and anti-war. One symbol our group found was the embryo (lethal human with bioweapons) that the “aliens” left after crashing into the village is a symbol for destruction and war which further ties into the theme.
Symbolic Worlds – The forest and the valley are the two main symbolic worlds. The forest represents untamed nature and the valley symbolizes a sense of respite. The jungle is unintentionally dangerous whereas the valley is more in between.
Symbolic Objects – A symbolic object we remembered was the whistle that Nausicaa used to calm the ohmu- this symbol stands for peace and instead of harming the environment, Nausicaa protected them.
Personal Story Symbols – Love, Kills.
Story Symbol – Agent Fond has the power of Emotion, where that power (which comes from her heart) is the whole reason that she battles herself in the name of love. This power is the reason she gets into the mess but also carries her through her entire conflict.
Symbolic Characters – Bastien Loup and his wolf mask, giving him the power over his agents and asserting his dominance. Yet, also symbolic of his care that he holds over his pack. Agent Bouche and her power with persuasion, Agent Esprit and her power of intelligence. Brings life to the concept and powers of this alternate world.
Symbolic Theme – Blood is thicker than water. Love for family is stronger than all others, and a lot of times that is questioned a lot. With Fond’s character having stronger emotions than the usual human, she endeavors this battle a lot tougher than any normal person would, as one would think you choose family over someone especially that you just met.
Symbolic Worlds – Really is not too much. Just maybe the mask of Bastien Loup and his henchmen again are symbolic of power/corruption, but it’s truly a very realistic story in some ways.
Symbolic Objects – Fond’s Heart and the Dances throughout the story. These dances, although not particularly objects, can really represent / tell a story and be symbolic through its movements. Even though it;’s hard to describe in the story itself, I can visually make it out to represent the symbol I desire.
