1. Weakness and need

Psychological–

Need: To change things up and find something to be passionate about

Moral–

Weakness: Kasail’s laziness makes other people, including his friends, have to pick up his slack and makes people resent him

Need: To learn how to be responsible and not push your work to others

2. Desire

To get out of work/go on a vacation by running away somewhere else.

3. Opponent

Primary: His boss, who wants him to stay, but also wants to leave himself

Secondary: His friend, who’s tired of his laziness and also wants to leave

4. Plan

Kasail’s friend comes in and tries to take over the summoning ritual. While they’re fighting about that the Boss also comes in and tries to take it over. During this mess Kasail manages to be the one to get summoned elsewhere.

6. Self-revelation

Through the fight with his friend he realizes that his trying to get out of work has been making other people miserable. He can’t go back to fix what he messed up at his job, and the realization that they’re going to have to go through a lot more trouble now that he’s not there messes him up.

7. New equilibrium

While he can’t go back he decides to do the best he can to make sure he doesn’t do the same thing to his new friend/boss. He does his best to do what they tell him to do and get used to the new environment.

  • The work dilemma intrigues me; Often find that people are very willing to work hard at what they love; but does our culture make that work possible? why or why not? maybe Kasail’s journey helps him find out why he can’t do what he wants–and find a way to work that suits him…COnsider who decides what work is important, and how and why?
