Personal Story

  1. Story Symbol
Is there a central symbol that unites the whole story?  How does it work? I think in my story, the letters would be the symbol for how this family is still so old fashion.
  2. Symbolic Characters
What kinds of characters populate the story? Does their age, gender, race, abilities, background, skills give them a symbolic role?  Do they carry, use or appear near symbols that define them?I think the Dad’s willingness to kill his wife to keep his daughter close and to keep his secret, is a symbol of selfishness.
  3. Symbolic Theme
What is your story’s main moral message about what kinds of actions are good vs evil? Are there any symbols used to describe or define the theme? The moral message of this story is that someone could love you but still care about themselves more.
  4. Symbolic Worlds
What kind of story world(s) exist in your story and do the worlds define their inhabitants in any symbolic way? eg earth dwellers are emphatic, and sky dwellers are aloof.I think because it’s our world this story is based in, the world reflects things that do happen today.
  5. Symbolic Objects
Are there symbolic objects that carry meaning(s) in your story? Examples include the Ring in Lord of Rings, The Wand in Harry Potter, the Grail in King Arthur stories. Even small objects can have pervasive meaning, like the Red thread/bracelet in Your Name.I think the letters would be the main symbolic object because that’s how Aubree finds out the truth about her mom’s death and how her father finds out that his daughter turned him in.

Nausicaa Story

  1. Story Symbol
Is there a central symbol that unites the whole story?  How does it work?Nausicaa embodies the theme of anti-war (for the most part) and environmental protection throughout the whole story and is just about the only one who constantly provides peace in both aspects.
  2. Symbolic Characters
What kinds of characters populate the story? Does their age, gender, race, abilities, background, skills give them a symbolic role?  Do they carry, use or appear near symbols that define them? The main characters we defined within Nausicaa include the large bugs that live in the evil forest. Nausicaa who wants to protect the environment and assemble peace when she can, villagers, and those trying to attack the village are almost always found with a gun. Guns become a prominent symbol within this story because one of the main concepts of the theme is anti-war.
  3. Symbolic Theme
What is your story’s main moral message about what kinds of actions are good vs evil? Are there any symbols used to describe or define the theme? The theme of Nausicaa is focused on the protection of the environment and anti-war. One symbol our group found was the embryo (lethal human with bioweapons) that the “aliens” left after crashing into the village is a symbol for destruction and war which further ties into the theme.
  4. Symbolic Worlds
What kind of story world(s) exist in your story and do the worlds define their inhabitants in any symbolic way? eg earth dwellers are emphatic, and sky dwellers are aloof. The forest and the valley are the two main symbolic worlds. The forest represents untamed nature and the valley symbolizes a sense of respite. The jungle is unintentionally dangerous whereas the valley is more in between.
  5. Symbolic Objects
Are there symbolic objects that carry meaning(s) in your story? Examples include the Ring in Lord of Rings, The Wand in Harry Potter, the Grail in King Arthur stories. Even small objects can have pervasive meaning, like the Red thread/bracelet in Your Name.A symbolic object we remembered was the while that Nausicaa used to calm the ohmu- this symbol stands for peace and instead of harming the environment, Nausicaa protected them.
