MORAL ARGUMENT

Hero’s Beliefs and Values

Kristina believes that her security comes from surrounding people. She believes at the beginning that self-worth doesn’t need to be recognized. She learns to value self-respect and self-worth. She values her close connections and acknowledges their importance.

Moral Weakness

When it comes to acting towards others, Kristina’s main weakness is trust. She loves her friends and cares about them but has a hard time trusting them when things go arye.

Moral Need

By the end of the story, Kristina must learn to love herself in order to love others in the world. Not only must she learn to have self-worth, but she must also understand that growth is necessary in life in order to be successful. She needs to be open to change and recognize that change isn’t always bad.

First Immoral Action

The first action Kristina takes that hurts someone else in the story is when she doesn’t believe that Oliver is her soulmate. She disagrees with him after he is so sure. This is an outgrowth of her moral weakness because even though Ollie is her best friend, she doesn’t trust his judgment.

Desire

Kristina’s end goal is to find her soulmate and grow in order to love herself for who she is.

Drive

Kristina first will deny Oliver that he is her soulmate

Start a change (go to the gym) and begin working slowly on herself

Stay home, work through her own thoughts

Understand that someone doesn’t always need to “have” her if she has herself

Have a dream- self-realization`

Finally, open up to the idea of loving herself and taking action (dress nicely, take herself out, treat herself)

Make-up with Ollie and they end up together because once she learns to love herself she can love others or Ollie finds another soulmate and they become friends again

Immoral Actions 2

In what way, if any, are these actions immoral?

One action that can be considered immoral is when Kristina “unfriends” Oliver because she disagreed with him. The moral thing to do would be to set aside their differences and find a common ground- but instead, they separated and became irritated with one another. Kristina receives criticism from Ollie for not being a “true” friend and she also receives a bit of backlash from her friends in the friend group. Kristina justified this action because in the end she forgives Ollie and they make-up-she grows from this experience.

Skipping school is pretty morally incorrect. One immoral action Kristina impacted was skipping school for almost a whole week. Although morally she shouldn’t have been skipping school, she justifies this situation by being productive. It is OK to miss school if you are personally struggling. As long as you are taking action, I think it makes the situation justifiable. She does receive criticism from a few of her friends, as well as her parents because they are concerned she is missing out on her education.

The other major activity that can be considered immoral is at the beginning when Kristina actively doesn’t love herself. Morally you should find self-worth. Of course, this is a moral that is allowed to be broken but generally speaking, it’s acceptable and correct to appreciate oneself. As for criticism, she receives a loss of a few friends who cast her out for not finding her soulmate (herself). She justifies this action by taking control of the situation and actively changing.

Attack by Ally

The main moral attack Ollie endures on Kristina is pushing his love onto her. He becomes angry with Kristina when she denies that he is her soulmate. Ollie justifies his actions by coming to terms with their relationship towards the end of the story. He also grows as a character and forgives Kristina for pushing him away.

Obsessive Drive

It was only closer towards the end of the story until Kristina realizes she must learn to adore herself. After everyone had received their hints and started finding their soulmates, Kristina realizes she doesn’t know who her soulmate is. She takes into account the way she feels about herself and decides this is the time to become obsessed with winning. Kristina acknowledges she is falling into a depressive state and has a realization that she must change.

Immoral Actions 3

While obsessed with winning, what immoral steps does your hero take?

An immoral action that Kristina commits while she becomes obsessed with winning is not responding to her allies (her closest friends) while at home. This can be considered morally flawed because her friends that do care about her, are just trying to make sure she is ok. Not responding can come off as a rude gesture when it comes to college friendships. She receives criticism from her friends that try to check in on her. She defends her situation by apologizing towards the end of the plot.

Battle

During the final battle, the hero’s values are more prominent. Kristina overcame her challenges when she put herself over ollie. She decided she needed to take action and put her needs before Ollie’s, by doing so she created most of the plot in the story.

Final Action Against Opponent

Kristina takes a crucial action during her final battle (with herself) when she decides to forgive Ollie for being aggressive and unfriendly. This is morally correct because she could have been stubborn and full of resentment towards Oliver, instead, she starts growing and overcoming her goal..

Moral Self-Revelation

Morally, Kristina overcomes being untrustworthy towards others. She has grown and learned to love herself. She is now capable of loving others and opens up to her friends, family, and even Oliver. If you love someone, you are more likely to trust them.

Moral Decision

Kristina decides to make the moral decision of forgiving Oliver for acting immorally. She could have not excused Ollie’s action but instead learns to love and trust others.

Thematic Revelation

Humans should love themselves and trust themselves. Not only did Kristina learn to love others, she learned she could love herself. She overcame a moral conflict within herself- which did affect others. She accomplished this by figuring out who her true soulmate is (herself).
