About Me

My name is Colin Ingalls, I am a New Media student at the University of Maine.

When I was about 14, I discovered what would become the soundtrack to my life. A genre of music that would influence and shape my perspective while reflecting the conflict and ideas that raced through my heart and mind. As it has continued for almost a decade, I have begun to suspect it may not be a phase after all. My exposure to punk rock has influenced not only my creative work, but has fostered a “do it yourself” attitude that has become central to my character. I believe that punk rock exists not only as a musical genre, but as an attitude and approach to life centered around self reliance and seeking to improve the lives of the community at large. I believe this attitude is critical in my approach to New Media topics, as these problems often require creative solutions that require the ability to learn while doing and without much external guidance.

Beyond the aesthetic impacts this subculture has had on my work, it is the perspective I have developed that continues to influence me today. I find myself inspired by work that explores feelings of melancholy and conflict, as well as skepticism and rebellion. I find the most fulfillment in exploring new ideas through the stories of those around me, because everyone has a story worth telling.

Though my experience in New Media is ever changing and developing, I am most comfortable with digital storytelling, video editing, motion graphics, 3D asset creation, and graphic design. A minor in Earth Science serves as persistent reminder to adhere to ideas of sustainability and be mindful of the impact design may have over a greater period of time.

  • Kind: Character/Discovery
Photo Techniques: The black and white theme goes with the theme of your story, and how you said the genre has influenced your style.
Emotional theme: It sort of feels happy, even though you talk about being inspired by melancholy and conflict.
Favorite: I like that you said you minor in earth science to be mindful of sustainability.
