My Family usually never goes on vacations, but when the time comes that we are actually able to afford one is a huge treat. Is this short little story I am essentially going to give a rundown on the experiences that happened during this said vacation

Even though it was a cabin in Maine it technically doesn’t count as a vacation, but it still was an enjoyable time. To start it was august in the summer of 2015 and we wanted to do something that didn’t involve sitting around the house watching tv and doing nothing, so my mom decided to find a cabin we can take a trip up to for about a week. She found that cabin and a week later we were driving up to the spot. It was a pretty little spot and was secluded so it was just us. The place had paddle boats, kayaks, and even a sizable dock so that we can go fishing.

The first couple of days were quite fun, we would get chairs and sit by the lake while our dog kept begging us to throw the tennis ball that we brought up. Fishing started to become a little disappointing because it seemed that all the fish in the lake were sunnies, but it was quite interesting to see a horde of the fish devour part of hot dog within seconds. Nighttime activities would consist of very casual things like eating dinner and playing board games that the people left for us to use. After playing trivial pursuit for the ninth time we would usually end off the night by plopping into bed.

On the final day, the rain started to settle and we packed up our things and headed back home. Even though the last two days were ruined by weather we all enjoyed the time we spent together.

This was probably one of the biggest vacations that I have gone on in my entire life because not only was it a country outside of the United States, I was able to meet my father’s side of the family which I was really excited for. Right at the beginning, it was nerve-racking because going to another country was something that I didn’t use to at all, but part of new had the strength to realize it was going to be ok
We took the 6-hour plane over and that is what started the adventure in my father’s homeland. We stayed in a hotel for the first night because we arrived really late and the house we rented for the week was not ready for us yet. One thing to note is it was always constantly warm day and night and that something I am definitely not use to since I’m coming from the hot/cold state of Maine. The night has passed and it took my family a while to see that we woke up in a different country. After fully waking up we would get breakfast and start to pack up our things to get ready to head to our rental and start to enjoy the things that Costa Rica has to offer.
Time passes and we were picked up by the owner of the house and he gave us a ride over while giving us a quick tour in the process like where we can get food, places to go swimming, and other leisurely activities, for the most part, it was quite helpful. I was still tired so I decided to take a quick power nap before our arrival and the next time I opened up my eyes I would see something beautiful. What I saw was the house on a hillside looking over a vast ocean while many types of exotic animals made their way through like toucans, red macaws, and I’m pretty sure there were quite a few lizards trotting by. It was amazing to see the country that my dad grew up in.
We set our stuff in the house and spent the first few days getting used to our surroundings and exploring what was around us because the real highlight of the vacation was when my dad’s family comes to visit, but back to exploring. We would take long walks on the beach and would try to see where it leads (spoiler: nothing interesting). If we’re not walking on the beach we would be eating at the local little restaurants along the coast. The food taste so good and the owners would let their dogs walk around, so it was fun to eat and pet their dog. Our little house had a pool that we would play in almost daily if we didn’t feel like sleeping in the ocean, but one thing that takes the cake of sights to see is at night when the full moon glimmers over the ocean making glow vibrantly. There was so many time I would be sitting on the beach enjoying the view

His brother Julio and his wife Maritza along with my dad’s sister Marjory(I think this is the correct spelling) were the ones who did most of the cooking and holy cow was it the best food you could ever taste. It felt true to their culture and really felt like I was in Costa Rica. it was always a joy seeing everyone smile and enjoy the food that they prepared. The brother that I spent the most time with was Juan, he was the youngest brother out of the bunch, but it was really fun to be around. Even though there was a language barrier I could always get the gist of the jokes that he was trying to tell and when nobody felt like doing an activity that I wanted to try he would always be there to join in on it. A great part was meeting my dad’s mother because ever since my sister and I were born she has been dying to see us in person. So it was quite a treat to see her face light up when she got the house and saw there ready to meet her.

It was hard to say goodbye because I’ve just got to know everyone well and now we have to go, but we promised that we would be back for sure. The final day ended with us being showered with gifts and various types of food items and shortly after everyone started leaving one by one and when last person left it was time for bed because a long day was ahead of us
