Hi! My name is Eliza. I’m a graduating senior at the University of Maine. I was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, my mother’s home country—so you could probably guess that I’m a big family-oriented person. Immigrating from one country to another pushed so many of our boundaries and our limits and it tested my relationship with my family in so many ways under the amount of pressure we had to succeed in education, in our careers, etc. Not to mention, my dream growing up was to become an artist, a career that doesn’t necessarily give back. Eventually that turned into a love for creating things, coding things, building things, which landed me a Front Development position in a small company in Portland, Maine. My family, nevertheless, has been my backbone since the day I was born. In my free time, I try to spend as much time as I can with them, though I live a little ways from home (currently based in Portland, Maine) while home is half an hour away. My brother and I are both collegiate runners, so when we have the time, we always make time to run with each other.
