Story Symbol

The journey, the main character is going through a life-changing move. The story follows her experience leaving home, and the “journey” she experiences in this new place.

Symbolic Characters

There is very diverse population of characters in this story. One character, No Face, embodies greed and desire. He creates gold from his hands, and those that take it are eaten. The gold is symbolic of desire, and what people want the most, but it comes at a price.

Symbolic Theme

The main moral message is the contrast between pursuit of happiness, economically versus spiritually. fulfillment is not obtained by money or wealth, but by living an interesting live, journeys and adventures, and the people you meet along they way.

Symbolic Worlds

The bathhouse acts as some sort of spirit realm, a fantasy unattached from reality.

Co-existence and lack of co-existence between the spirit world and reality.

Train station, a gateway between two worlds.

Reality, the human world is not as “fantastic” as the Chihiro’s imagination.
