Coexistence – In the movie Princess Mononoke there is coexistence all around. Whether it be in the forest or in the cities, it’s happening everywhere. For the characters, it means one of two things. Either hatred towards the other, or first love. We can how much Princess Mononoke and Lady Eboshi despise each other, while still coexisting in the same environment. The problem for them is they have to coexist with each other if they both want to get what they need. A second example is all the creatures or gods in the forest and how they coexist to maintain it. They all have to work together to be successful and to ward off all enemies. Without the team effort, they are nothing. I love the representation of this term in the movie and has really empowered my viewing experience.
Rage – We see this term a lot in the movie. There seems to be rage and war from the very start, and it goes on throughout the whole movie. My favorite example of this is just the hatred Princess Mononoke has towards Lady Eboshi. From the first time we see them meet in the movie, there is a bloody battle. Both sides are fueled by hate because the other gets in the way of their desires. This term was the most prevalent in the movie I think and really opened me up to it. I think it displays a great view of it and how it can be used in stories.
