CHARACTER FUNCTIONS

  • Protagonists:
  • Deacon– The oldest member of the troop who’s a washed up boy wonder taking risks while cracking jokes to cover up his underlying anxious and unmotivated nature.
  • Nicole– Third oldest of the troop who’s aggressively efficient just wanting to clock in and out as quickly as possible especially since her way is typically the “cleanest” way.
  • Ezekiel– Second oldest in the troop who’s apathetic but professional seeing his job as the ends justifying the means while trying to keep the group from butting heads
  • Brooke– Newest of the troop who’s a voice of reason and at times sanity doing her best to adjust to her new hectic world

  • Opponent/ Fake-AllyOpponet:
  • Montgomery- Handler of the troop who’s harsh and unforgiving especially as a surrogate father figure leaving the troop members to fend for themselves
  • Opponent:
  • The Chimera Creator- A former Nazi who worked in the Ocult division who now combines various animals to weaponize.
  • Droid Doctor- A mad scientist who is obsessed with advancing the human race via robots and autonomous enhancements.
  • Fake-Opponent Ally: Lightlover- One of the Chimera Creators inventions that is part owl and part moth. Think Mothman but more owl influenced that the troop frees and befriends because Deacon and Nicole think he’s kinda cute
  • Subplot Character: There are a few that are currently unnamed that help the troop individually when they go off and try to train to stop Montgomery.

CHARACTER ARCHETYPES/DESCRIPTION

I’m going to merge these archetypes with those of the five man band since there’s multiple protagonists. Here’s a video about the trope https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lmmNuic_4tQ

Nicole-Leader/Brains/Warrior: Nicole is often the one who Montgomery wants taking point or making the final calls when the troop is out on a job. She’s quick thinking and crafty but when fighting things otherworldly sometimes one has to forget about clean and quiet solutions which Nicole is hesitant doing. She fits the archetypes due to… 1) Her coming up with most of the initial plans and seeing them out. 2) She often is the one who helps keep the team actually stay on track. 3) The Troop is often more unorganized and a mess without her overbearing nature. She subverts the archetypes due to… 1) She feels an immense amount of pressure feeling unfit to lead and just giving up the position at times. 2) At times her ideas aren’t effective due to their foes aren’t logical beings. 3) She wants for everyone to not have to be supervised and just be functional on their own.

Deacon-Lancer/Artist/Warrior: The foil to Nicole’s leading Deacon will often try to take his own path or undermine her authority. More creative than the rest he comes up with the more absurd solutions and makes tools or weapons the team needs. He fits the archetypes due to… 1) Him often wanting things his way but respecting when Nicole’s methods make sense. 2) His more calm and humorous view helps balance Nicole especially when she’s overwhelmed. 3) Often feels underappreciated he will at times go off on his own. He subverts these tropes by… 1) He’s art is seen in things made to ultimately harm others by making new weapons and things to mask the team’s identity. 2) He is quick to apologize when things get out of hand or he gets in over his own head as he realizes the ramifications of his actions on the team. 3) At times he will propose ways that the team won’t need to be physically involved rather than seeking solutions where fighting is necessary.

Ezekiel-Muscle/Warrior: The guy you call when you have to move something big. Ezekiel is the strongest of the four leading him to often having to pull the weight when someone else drops the ball. He’s indifferent to who’s leading and apathetic to what must be done because a job is a job in his mind. He fits the archetype due to… 1) He’s the strongest physically and mentally as an unshakeable person continuously trudging forward. 2) He’s mostly the most efficient at taking out threats, doing so in the least amount of effort. 3) He’s the most professional of the group making him often the mediator due to his strength. He subverts these archetypes by… 1) Being relatively quiet, even though he’s the strongest he prefers his actions to speak. 2) He often uses his raw strength in tandem with his intelligence or the team’s ideas, i.e. throwing a chair to push someone out of a doorway while also barricading it. 3) He’s not quick to rage, seeing more of a joy in the work he does like Deacon but is often the one making sure everyone is doing alright.

Brooke-Heart/Warrior: The Preppy Newbie who quickly begins to care for everyone in the Troop and see past their flaws since they literally replaced her old family. She’s more compassionate and hopeful since she is not as desensitized and traumatized as the other members. She wants the best for everyone and is reflected by no one having any issues with her other than being unqualified for being a teenage hitperson. She fits the archetype due to… 1) She has the patients to deal with each of the members individually and in group settings. 2) She tries her best to protect anyone unworthy of the Troops’ wrath. 3) She helps keep everyone in check so that the group doesn’t get into any further trouble than they might be in. She subverts these by… 1) Being a good fighter on her own due to kickboxing classes and playing volleyball quickly keeping up with the rest of the team. 2) She occasionally lets some bad happen for the greater good, she can be a lil Machiavellian. 3) She often leave room for Ezekiel to provide his emotional support due to him opening up to her that it’s one of the few times he feels like the team is glad to hear from him which is untrue but she doesn’t have to carry all the emotional labor.
