Premise- A college-aged girl discovers a portal in her dorm room closet. She wants to enter and discover where it goes. Once arrived, she isn’t sure how to get home and must be back in time to complete a quiz by 11:59 pm. 

 

Seven Steps- 

Weakness and Need

The protagonist needs something new in her life. She has the same daily routine every day, and she needs to switch it up. Not only does she need to discover something new, but she is also bored and mentally is tired from schoolwork. She wants to discover a new feeling other than tired and bored. 

 

Problem-

The girl has to get back to her schoolwork because she has a quiz due later at night, she finds herself stuck in a world that she loves- and does not want to return. 

 

Desire- 

The girl wants to enter the portal and see where it leads. She desires to enter the new door that has been discovered inside her closet. Once in the new world, she desires to explore even more around her. 

 

Opponent- 

The protagonist runs into an outer space siren that constantly reminds her of the work she needs to complete back home. He convinces her this is what she needs to do. That she must stick to her routine. 

 

Plan-

The girl will enter the portal

She swirls into outer space and finds herself on mars 

She decides what she wants to do first 

She runs into the siren of mars who reminds her of the work she must complete 

She must decide to leave mars or decide to stay 

She decides to go to a new planet- Saturn 

Again she runs into a Saturn siren that reminds her not only of her school work but of another daily tasks like cleaning, showering, socializing, etc..

She must decide to stay or go

She decides to go to a new planet- earth 

She goes back home and discovers that she can explore her world as well. 

 

Battle-

 

The girl runs into two different sirens that both battle with her other a similar concept- responsibility. This happens within a conflict of words. 

 

Self-Revelation- 

She discovers that she needs to balance creativity, and they want to explore with responsibilities.

She recognizes that she is in a student routine and isn’t fully enjoying her life. She desires to travel and have new experiences.

 

New Equilibrium- 

This is where the girl returns to earth- although she gives in to her desire or wants to stay within the new world, she discovers that she can travel and discover new experiences on her own planet Earth. 

  • This was my planned outline. However, as I was writing this story I changed my mind and came up with new ideas when writing. I can change this outline, but I wanted you to see where I started vs where I ended.
