The first 2 scenes are what defines the main character Sadie. She comes from a background of fighting for her well being. This early betrayal sets her up for a life she wasn’t expecting.
Scene 1
Sadie and her husband are out on their usual morning hunt. Living out in the wilderness doesn’t give them much of choice but to spend every waking moment together. This hunt because a little more unusual as time went on. Her husband with a history of abuse and manipulation is acting strange. He isn’t really speaking to her. Usually he doesn’t hesitate to say what’s on his mind. If Sadie makes a mistake she can’t hear the end of it. As they’re moving along through the forest they are getting some kills to prepare their food for the day. As the sun is starting to fully rise, they see a creature that neither of them had seen before. One would describe it as a mix between a giant grizzly bear and a gorilla. From a distance both Sadie and her husband could clearly tell this was an aggressive animal. They’ve spent countless hours out in the wild and to never have seen anything like this has made them both very alarmed. Her husband wants to kill it. Sadie and her husband are proficient bow hunters but there’s no way of knowing if that would kill this creature. Her husband is in awe and thinks they have found something spectacular. He lines up to take a shot at mythical looking beast and sticks it right into its back. Expecting it to go down in pain or flee, this animal turns and immediately starts running for the two. Sadie’s husband realizes he’s made a mistake and has to think quickly. He turns to Sadie and slashes her leg with his skinning knife. She goes down in serious pain. As she flails around try to figure out why he did such a thing, he takes off running and says to her, “I’ve been wanting to do this, now seemed like a good time”. He leaves her in the dirt for the animal to finish her off. This is the last time Sadie saw her husband. She couldn’t believe what just happened. Being in so much shock she is frozen to the ground. She’s bleeding out and can’t even think straight. This beast is hurdling towards her but as it gets closer to Sadie it begins to slow down. Looking down at her, the beast sees right into her eyes. She expects to be dead at this point. The monster animal almost seems like it feels bad for her. The beast screams its deathly roar and runs back in the direction it came from. Sadie is left alone there in the woods and she’s hurt badly. Her husband thinks she’s dead and she doesn’t know what to do. She ties her belt around her wound and stumbles her way in the direction of the beast. Leaving everything she had worked for behind, she had no plans of ever going back home.
Scene 2
Sadie has woken up in someone’s home. She was found by a group of explorers who have taken her in to get her healed and back to normal. She’s a little freaked out at first but she quickly calms down when a younger girl notices Sadie woke up and comes running into her room. Sadie asks the girl, “Who are you? Where are your parents?” The girl says, “My name is Sarah! My parents are out milking the cows, want me to go get them?” Sadie nods nervously and sends the girl out to get her parents. As Sadie is looking around the room trying to understand where she is, she notices this girl has a lot of similar interests as herself. She thinks nothing of it but becomes more comfortable with the fact that this little girl loves to ride horses just like Sadie did when she was little.
