Task 5 – Nate R

The opening scene in this story is very character driven. I want to start by explaining that the main character is Sonya. The opening scene is going to be a flashback to her early life. This scene is meant to set the conflict right off the bat. In her early twenties, she got involved in a relationship and eventually marriage that she probably shouldn’t have. She was treated very poorly by this man she was with. The first scene they are hunting together in the early morning. She feels the confidence to take a shot at a deer but misses and it enrages her husband. Her husband then threatens her and talks down to her while she is pinned to the ground with a knife to her neck. He yells at her and questions why they are even together. She doesn’t fight back. She is too afraid to fight back. After the altercation they continue to hunt. As they are hunting they begin to move into some pretty dangerous grounds, bears are known to be in the area.  They are snuck up on by a large bear and she sabotages her husband.  They are running away from the bear and she slices at her husbands leg causing him to go down, leaving him as the bear’s breakfast. She manages to get away and is extremely emotional after what she had just done.

This scene is intended to show that she is in a bad situation and needs change in her life. She is initially afraid of change but when the spontaneous opportunity strikes, she will not think twice about it.
