Review Game Design Document
Using the description of a premise from John Truby’s The Anatomy of Story, update your game “premise.” This should be a dense, concise single sentence that capture all the key elements of your game narrative.
Review World Building, esp the “three main rules” on p 11. Then brainstorm, take notes, draw, sketch, find related images etc to help you craft a world for your game narrative.
Then follow the Game World layout on pages 14-15 in the Game Design Document and develop the following sections
- Overview
- Key locations
- Travel
- Scale
- Objects
- Weather
- Day/night
- Game Engine & why
- Camera
- Environment–2D? 3D? etc
- Lighting
- Setting Game Summary
- Any other section you need
As you brainstorm world ideas, you may want to begin taking notes for player and all game main game characters at this point, as you will need to develop them soon , and they should be consistent with your game world.
