Preliminary Research

September 17, 2019

Values

Conduct the following research to help you craft the first draft of your Text based proposal.

Review your notes from Humane Tech and the Design Guide.  Consider how your project addresses the concerns and values expressed by the design guide. Is there a way your project could support an even better quality of life? And will it benefit all people or just those with the most resources? (500 words)

Similar Context/Audience

Find 3 other articles online that explore issues relevant to those you will explore in your project. If you are looking at stories about race, for example and your project uses VR, what are the hot issues about race in VR, and how does your project address them? If you are working in animation, are there issues for creating animation for marginal races? For example are the templates race-sensitive? Does your toolkit contain crew cuts and/or kinky hair?  You may want to include articles found using “Google Scholar” if you want a solid research component in your CUGR proposal. (500 words)

Related Work

Find at least 3 other projects that share some technical similarity to yours, so they are helpful to your thinking. Similarities could be in technology used, interface design, etc. (500 words)

You can add other related content as well that helps you understand your topic, tech or audience better. Just add it on with your own category.

Basically make yourself as smart as you can about the area of your interest/issue; and find other related projects.

Your goal is to have about 1500 words (about 6 pages) of writing/notes, in a well-organized outline form that you can use in your proposal to clarify content and explain the research goals.
