1. PROJECT: ‘DOCUTAPE’

A ‘ docutape’ which is a documentary on the process of making a beat tape; it’s the same thing as an artist releasing an album, but instead it’s just beats and doesn’t have any audio over it. The documentary will have the specifics of what goes into making a beat tape.

2. KEY VALUES (YOURS, AND THOSE OF PROJECT):

The values are to show the insides and out of the process that goes into music production. Without the specifics and proper storytelling, the viewer won’t understand the overall concept.

3. MEASURE OF SUCCESS:

  1. EMOTIONAL: The ‘docutape’ will make people happy because they are encouraged to make music and told that anyone can do it if you put your mind to it.
  2. ATTENTION: The goal is to make an interesting storyline to keep the viewers interested with the overall concept which is making music.
  3. SENSE MAKING: Making sure the documentary is easy to follow so people understand that they’re capable of making music too.
  4. DECISION MAKING: Giving ideas and tools for the viewer to then go out and create something of their own.
  5. SOCIAL REASONING: Bringing music and film together to tell a story using both and not just one or the other.
  6. GROUP DYNAMICS: Influential for other people.

NOW DEVELOP AN ACTION STATEMENT FOR HUMANE TECHNOLOGY USING YOUR EVALUATION ABOVE AND PRIORITIZATION FROM THE PREVIOUS SHEET.

  1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR PROJECT CURRENTLY ENGAGE HUMAN SENSITIVITIES?

    • Which specific elements might warrant redesign?

If the docutape doesn’t explain the process of making music while keeping the viewer entertained the way we had in mind it will need to be redesigned.

    • Are the success criteria in tension with any sensitivities?

As of right now, we don’t have any sensitivities causing tension.

  1. HOW MIGHT YOUR PROJECT SUPPORT OR ELEVATE HUMAN SENSITIVITIES?

    • Where are humans naturally brilliant at manifesting the value proposition?

The docutape will encourage people to produce music and do so in their own creative way.

    • How might a design element change to better support that brilliance?

We might need to change the teaching aspect, instead of just telling, so the viewer watches it and comes away with an idea on how to produce music.

    • With social sensitivities, could the design encourage people to meet the goal in real life? Consider the “Natural Anti-depressants” in Johan Hari’s Lost Connections, for example.

I believe that this project will encourage people to either go out and create music of their own, or it will help them realize they can do whatever they want with their life if you work hard and have an end goal.

    • Do any success criteria need to shift to support human sensitivities?

No because this might not be for everyone. If it isn’t for someone, then they can use it more as motivation than teaching them how to produce music.

  1. ACTION STATEMENT

    • What is one thing you want to learn more about?

I want to learn more about how to make a documentary interesting to everyone even if the subject of it isn’t appealing to everyone.

    • What would you like to discuss with your team?

I would like to discuss the order that we do things, from interview questions, filming b-roll, and shots of individual steps on how to create music.

    • What would you like to design or prototype?

We have a prototype from a documentary I made about music production last year.

    • Are there any new design principles you might employ?

We are considering adding an interactive element to it so the viewer can make it more towards their interests, like making a section of the docutape on a specific genre of music.
