Task 10- Parker King

  1. Research-With any new technology or artificial intelligence come benefits and drawbacks. Personally, I believe that the benefits and disadvantages evenly weigh out. A few issues that stem from artificial intelligence are unemployment, artificial intelligence bias against people (such as racism, sexism, etc), distribution of wealth where most of the revenue will go to the owners of the artificial intelligence. In 2014, roughly the same revenues were generated by the three biggest companies in Detroit and the three biggest companies in Silicon Valley … only in Silicon Valley, there were 10 times fewer employees.  Other issues we may face with artificial technology are “incorrectly representing or failing to represent an individual’s identity in a machine learning system, or any decision made by this system thereafter, in regards to that individual.”, the high cost of maintaining and updating AI systems, lack of out of the box thinking and emotions, and systems of (AI) being used maliciously- lack of security. Benefits- Although the benefits of artificial technology won’t be found entirely until we continue to increase its function, there are a plentiful amount of advantages that it brings. A few examples are predicting text, reduction of human error, having artificial technology take risks instead of humans in dangerous situations. Another point to think about is that] artificial technology is available to work 24/7 whereas most humans only work 4-6 hours. It also provides digital assistance and quicker decision-making.

The overall quality of good comes from “missing data, missed inputs, missed decision paths, missed discussions “ they all have a bearing on the “quality” of the prediction. When does AI go from being used for good, to being used for evil? How much missing data, inputs, discussion, or decision paths does it take before the tech turns bad?
