BRIEF DISCLAIMER
This story was originally written to be a RPG, and has RPG aspects that affect the story or “gameplay.” I plan on continuing to write it as an RPG but I will be leaning more into dialogue than other forms of traditional gameplay, so if you come across things that seem like “random encounters” or other similar gameplay mechanics keep this in mind, if you think something doesn’t seem right don’t let this sway your opinion though, especially if I’m leaning too hard into RPG stereotypes.
CHARACTER FUNCTIONS
Ilyas [Protagonist]: One of the two leaders in the group. He is the ‘hero’ of the story, and makes many important decisions in the group. He ends up being the one to defeat the antagonist at the end of the story.
Einar[Ally]: One of the two leaders in the group. He takes on a mentor role in the story, using his skills and experience to help Ilyas make informed decisions.
Dean [Ally]: Challenges the status quo for basic survival, and brings her own education and perspective to the party.
Kymil [Ally]: A moral compass of the party, they believe in helping anyone who needs help. A purely neutral ground, while they are not familiar with human morals.
Qwin [Fake-Opponent Ally/ Subplot Character]: While he is not seen as an opponent to the main plot, he is seen as a danger despite his good, and sometimes even non-existent intentions. This character is mostly in the subplot, and at first seems detached from the story, but his narrative further builds the world and helps unlock an ability of the main character, which ultimately helps the group reach their goal.
Ava [Fake-Ally Opponent/ Potential Subplot Character]: While she does not try to directly harm anyone in the group once she joins, she obscures her true intentions to be closer with Ilyas so that she may bring him back home. She holds no care for what happens with the humans who make their homes in bunkers, and is out to look after her people before anything else. This is in direct opposition to the main goal, as Ilyas is a leader in the group and is seen as a necessary part of them.
Petra [Opponent]: She is a clear ‘bad guy’ of this story, though she does not become known as one until the end. Her plans have been affecting them throughout the entire story, but it was always brushed off as something unrelated. Only when she is found out does she become a visible opponent
Environment [Opponent]: The harsh weather is a constant opponent that cannot ever truly be defeated, frequent Blizzards decline characters health, and could kill them if they don’t occasionally take it slow or stop to warm up. Wild animals are also a danger in the story, and occasionally attack characters.
CHARACTER ARCHETYPES
Ilyas [“Mother”]: He cares for his friends and allies and is protective of them. Wants them to be safe and happy and will help them reach it whenever possible.
Einar[Mentor]: Guides the protagonist throughout the story. He is an introduction to the world the protagonist finds himself in and helps him navigate it.
Dean [Rebel]: Is an emotional guide to the party. She is the youngest by a lot and is inexperienced with survival out of textbooks. She keeps the protagonist from making rash decisions that could end up with him hurting himself for the betterment of the group.
Kymil [Magician]: Takes the party to beings who may be able to help them on their mission. They help keep a relative calm in the group.
Qwin [Trickster]: Becomes a question of morals for the protagonist and the rest of the party. He also helps the protagonist unlock a power he didn’t know he had and teaches him that it is okay to take breaks and relax.
Ava [Warrior]: Is also a question of morals for the protagonist, but on the opposite end. She teaches him about who he used to be and where he came from.
Petra [Artist]: Shows how she is a product of some of the more dystopian aspects of bunker life. Shows the protagonist the worse side of humanity.
ARCHETYPE DESCRIPTION
Ilyas – Main Protagonist [“Mother”]:
He cares for his friends and allies, and takes on struggles that other people would be better suited for because of it. He is protective, and doesn’t wish harm on people he has an emotional connection with. He holds on to these emotional connections he’s made, despite whether he should or not, because of how loose he feels to his own reality. Which could be classified as selfish.
While he provides care, he does not coddle the people around him or shield them from danger. He tries to prevent that danger first, and if someone were to fall into it he would help without much thought, but he still expects people to pull their own weight. It is only when he feels they cannot that he steps in to help. And while he likes organization, and to be a leader, he wants to hear what others have to say if he is unsure of a path.
Petra – Main Antagonist [Artist]:
She has her own vision of the world, and truly only wants what she believes to be for the betterment of humans. She holds the people around her to a great standard, and holds a lot of ambition for whatever goal lays in her head. The lines from The Anatomy of Story “[she] shows them beauty and a vision of the future or what appears to be beautiful” as well as “[She] can be the ultimate fascist insisting on perfection, may create a special world where all can be controlled, or simply tears everything down so that nothing has value,” are perfect descriptions for her outlook in the story.
While she tries to show people her version of “beauty”, when people do not listen or comply she has little patience for them, and ultimately sees them as a roadblock. She is less understanding than what is described in the book, and takes Warrior traits like believing that whatever she considers to be weak must be destroyed.
