For my New Media Capstone, I want to create an app called “JoyRyde”. This app is going to allow people who go on drives to blow off steam, de-stress, or smoke in the amount of time they choose, with whatever scenery they prefer. When the joyryde is over, the app will send them back to their original position. This app will use geolocation and mapping to determine the most time-accurate loop from your location and back, and allow you to set the amount of time you’d like to be on your joyride. As an example, someone could set the time to 20 minutes, and scenery to rural. The app would calculate a loop that takes approximately 20 minutes to get back, going through more rural areas and backroads. Another example is someone who recently moved into a city and wants to go on a drive to get to know the area, but doesn’t want to get lost and doesn’t want to waste too much time and gas. Joyryde will allow this person to set their scene to “city” and have them return home in the time they choose. This is very useful for people who like to go on drives out in the city or country. If someone has a meeting they’re nervous about, they can go on a joy ride without having to worry about being late or losing track of time, or location. If someone wants to go smoke with some buddies on a drive, they can set their app to do just that for them. There have been many times where me and my friends want to kill time, and since there is nothing to do in our hometown, we would just go on drives. This app would allow us to go longer distances without fear of us getting lost or taking too long. Extra features will include being able to chat with friends with the app, post their preferred joyride routes, and setting specific roads they’d like to hit. Paid versions of the app will allow people to set specific roads and stores they want to hit on their ride, pick up friends on rides, and alert others of cops and traffic in specific areas. Unpaid versions will gate off these social features, whereas paid versions of the app will unlock the social side to this app.
