Our mission is to provide a deeper understanding of the natural history, science, and rich culture of the 10,000 year old, wild blueberry’s indigenous ecosystem. Our vision, is that we envision a future where this bio-diverse ecosystem and rural farms build capacity and prosperity, fostering ecological resilience in an ever changing world.

Before 1776, Bradley was a part of the territory that belonged to the Penobscot Indians (Terratine Tribe). Probably the first white men that made their way up the river came to fish, to hunt and to trap. Eventually in 1825 the settlers met and made #4 Indian purchase called Great Works. In 1835, Bradley was officially incorporated as a town in the State of Maine

Dell and Marie Emerson’s lives have revolved around the blueberry industry. Dell is the farmer’s farmer, having worked at the University of Maine for 53 years on the only Wild Blueberry research farm in the U.S. Marie, a certified and award-winning chef, has taught in the Maine Community College System for 30 years. Our farm, Wild Wescogus Berries (a Passamaquoddy name translated to “above the water”), is located in beautiful Downeast Maine, one of the last undeveloped areas on the U.S. East Coast. Our farm overlooks tidal Pleasant River, and Acadia National Park’s Cadillac Mountain serves as a pristine backdrop.

Matt Tinker “MooseMan” spends his workdays looking for animals. He paddles in canoes and walks trails through the woods, always watching out for wildlife. “I’ll be out with people on the lake, the water is like glass, an eagle flies overhead, and I’m like, ‘Welcome to my office,’” he says. Tinker, a Master Maine Guide, makes a living taking groups and individuals on moose watches, canoe adventures, and fishing and hunting trips. Matt is also a PSIA ski examiner working from Sugarloaf and up and down the east coast.

Capt. Linda Hanson is the owner and operator of BLUE VAYU. She holds a 100-ton license. Linda has raced and sailed boats on the Maine coast for the past 30 years, and as teacher, has had every summer to explore Penobscot Bay. In her opinion, this region is as spectacular as any sailing region in the world.
